Design of an ergonomically correct vehicle seat using Digital human model and virtual seat prototype

Virtual Seat

Introduction

People spend more and more time sitting in their car seat. Of course they expect to be comfortably seated, but the Lear comfort engineering team went further by designing a seat that could contribute to the health and wellness of the driver. This article presents how to design a seat that proposes to the driver a correct posture depending on his morphology. Digital human model and virtual seat prototyping are used all along the design process to virtually seat human model and check their posture. The inflation of bladders is also simulated to understand how they impact the posture of the seated human model, and thanks to such analysis, bladder design is optimized to ensure a correct occupant posture.
